Sen. Hatch Sends Letter To FBI About ‘Deeply Troubling’ Behavior From Ford’s Lawyers

H/T Right Wing Folks.

I agree with Senator Orrin Hatch(R-UT) Ford’s lawyer Debra Katz is a shady sleaze bag, to say the least.

Orrin Hatch, a Republican Senator for Utah, was one of the people who indicated that Democrats will do everything in their power to postpone Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote to the Supreme Court and that they are using Ford’s allegations to do so. Now, he is demanding to be notified if the bureau encounters any stall tactics while the FBI is investigating into the allegations against Kavanaugh.

Hatch also spoke of the “deeply troubling” behavior of one of Ford’s lawyers, Debra Katz.

On Fridays, the Senate Judiciary Committee made a decision, which President Trump backed up, regarding Kavanaugh’s case to allow the FBI to conduct an investigation and look into Ford’s claims, who indicated that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when they were both in high school. However, the panel also agreed that the investigation is to last only for a week.

Hatch then, sent a letter to the FBI Director Christopher Wray and released a copy of it on his website.

“The President noted that this request should be limited in scope and completed in one week from yesterday,” Hatch wrote.

Hatch also noted that the alleged witnesses and Ford have agreed to cooperate and yet he expressed his concern of possible impedance of the investigation.

“I am writing to request, however, that you notify the White House Counsel’s Office immediately if any witness(es) or their representatives seek to delay or are uncooperative in this process,” he said.

Then, he revealed that the reason behind his concerns is Katz’s apparent conduct.

“One key reason for my concern regarding possible delay comes from testimony during the hearing this past Thursday. According to Dr. Ford, she would have preferred to have been interviewed in California, away from the spectacle of a public hearing. But her lawyers apparently refused to convey to their client numerous offers by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to conduct a public or private interview in a location of her choosing,” wrote Hatch.

“The lawyers’ refusal led directly to a public hearing, against Dr. Ford’s express wishes. This is deeply troubling,” he continued.

With regard to the investigation, President Trump tweeted on Saturday that even though he limited the length of the investigation to a week, the FBI is allowed to take the investigation wherever it leads them. The initial reports indicated that the FBI are confined to Ford’s claims only.

NBC News incorrectly reported (as usual) that I was limiting the FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh, and witnesses, only to certain people. Actually, I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion. Please correct your reporting!

Raj Shah, the White House spokesman, confirmed what Trump said in his tweet.

“The scope and duration has been set by the Senate,” Shah said, according to Fox News. “The White House is letting the FBI agents do what they are trained to do.”

On Friday, Hatch said that he doesn’t see a reason for an investigation to be conducted but despite that, he supports the decision as it would make other senators more assured to vote for Kavanaugh after.

The FBI’s supplemental background investigation will help those with remaining doubts after this week’s hearing.

The limited scope will prevent frivolous accusations like these from creating further unnecessary delay.

.@senjudiciary today referred potential false statements alleging misconduct by Judge Kavanaugh to federal law enforcement for criminal investigation after accuser recanted.

“While I personally believe it is appropriate to proceed with Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation at this time, I recognize that some members feel that additional investigation could be useful. I support the decision for an investigation limited in length and scope as described today. This will address the concerns raised by Senator Flake and others while also being fair to the Kavanaugh family,” said Hatch in a statement on Friday.
