Dick’s Sporting Goods reports $150 million in lost sales after halting assault-weapons sales

H/T Fox News.

I personally will not be sad to see Dick’s Sporting Goods store sent to the ash bin of history.

Dick’s Sporting Goods’ bottom line took a very big hit after halting the sale of assault-style weapons in response to the Parkland school massacre.

The policy change cost the nation’s largest sporting goods retailer about $150 million in lost sales, about 1.7 percent of annual revenue, Bloomberg News reported Friday.

But boss Ed Stack isn’t complaining.

“The system does not work,” Stack said, according to the news outlet. “It’s important that when you know there’s something that’s not working, and it’s to the detriment of the public, you have to stand up.”

Parkland gunman Nikolas Cruz purchased a shotgun from Dick’s a few months before the attack, which left 17 dead, including a number of students.

Stack also banned the sale of all guns to anyone under 21.

Still, the gun ban hasn’t affected Dick’s stock price, Bloomberg reported.

Shares have climbed 14 percent in the 13 months since Parkland. Shares rose slightly Friday.

After the ban was announced, the National Rifle Association criticized Stack’s “strange business model,” according to Bloomberg.

Also, the National Shooting Sports Foundation kicked Dick’s out of the organization. Gun manufacturers liked Mossberg stopped do business with Dick’s.

Those who supported the ban promised to become Dick’s customers but did not stay the course.

“Love is fleeting. Hate is forever,” Stack said.

If Trump Shuts Border & Builds Wall, NO Dem Can Beat Him in 2020, Claims Radio Host

H/T BarbWire.

Rush Limbaugh is spot on if President Trump shuts down the border and builds the wall he is a shoo-in for re-election in 2020.

The 2020 election is still a little over 2 years and 7 months away and yet Democrats are lining up for the chance to defeat the man who they believe is their worst enemy in years.

Trump already has the economy and jobs in his favor, but having the best record doesn’t necessarily equate to a victory as it did years ago.

So, what would it take for Trump to win re-election in 2020?

According to talk show host Rush Limbaugh, if Trump closed the US-Mexico border as he has threatened to do and build the border wall, that no Democrat could defeat him.

The National Sentinel – Limbaugh: If POTUS Trump shuts down the border, builds the wall, ‘no Dem can beat him in 2020’ – Talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh on Thursday discussed POTUS Donald Trump’s latest threat to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border in order to deal with rising numbers of illegal aliens who are stretching border and customs’ resources past the breaking point, noting that if he were to do that and build portions of a wall, he would become unbeatable next year.

In an interview with another talk show behemoth, Sean Hannity, on the latter’s Fox News program, Limbaugh said that the president has to “zero in on immigration,” despite POTUS’ desire for the “Republican Party to become known as the party of health care” instead, hitting on an issue near and dear to voters’ hearts in 2018.

“[Health care] is a tangible thing that really matters to every human being,” he said.

However, Limbaugh notes that Trump was elected primarily on a platform to build a border wall and to address illegal immigration and all of its ancillary issues like sanctuary cities, birthright citizenship, and so forth…

One way that would help Trump win is that it would prevent more illegal aliens from illegally voting in 2020, as Democrats want them to be able to.

If Trump really wants to secure re-election, he needs to launch an aggressive deportation program to deport as many of the 11-20 million illegals as possible.

One group claimed that at least 3 million illegals voted in 2016 and that most of them voted for Hillary Clinton.

I would start the deportations in California and Oregon, states with laws that registers illegals to vote.

Trump Pushes to Jump-Start Completion of Keystone Pipeline System First Proposed in 2005

H/T Breitbart.

Finishing the Keystone pipeline is just one more piece of the energy independence puzzle.

Fourteen years after TransCanada Corporation first proposed the construction of the Keystone Pipeline System to transport crude oil from Canada through points in the United States to the Gulf Coast, President Donald Trump issued a presidential permit on Friday in the hopes of finally getting the job-creating, energy-producing project finished.

Because the pipeline traverses an international border, the project has been under the jurisdiction of the U.S. State Department, which has issued several environmental impact statements, all of which concluded: “Keystone XL will have a limited effect on the environment.”

And although key portions of the pipeline have already been completed, the final construction of the Keystone XL part of the remaining pipeline has been held up in lawsuits brought by environmental activists and some Native American tribes.

President Donald Trump first issued a presidential permit to allow TransCanada to complete Keystone XL in March of 2017, which resulted in more lawsuits.

On Friday, Trump issued another presidential permit to replace the one issued two years ago, drawing the ire of critics of Keystone XL in particular and fossil fuels in general.

The Associated Press (AP) reported:

A federal judge blocked the project in November, saying the Trump administration had not fully considered potential oil spills and other impacts. U.S. District Judge Brian Morris ordered a new environmental review.

A White House spokesman said the new permit issued by Trump “dispels any uncertainty” about the project.

“Specifically, this permit reinforces, as should have been clear all along, that the presidential permit is indeed an exercise of presidential authority that is not subject to judicial review under the Administrative Procedure Act,” the spokesman said in the AP report.

The Environmental and Energy Law Program at Harvard University describes the current state of the pipeline project this way:

The Keystone XL pipeline is a proposed extension of the existing Keystone Pipeline System, which currently transports up to 600,000 barrels of oil per day between Canada and the US. The Keystone Pipeline System runs from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta to refineries in Illinois and Texas, and also to oil tank farms and an oil pipeline distribution center in Cushing, Oklahoma. TransCanada is the sole owner of both the Keystone Pipeline System and Keystone XL.

The Keystone XL pipeline would connect to the existing pipeline system to bring oil from Hardisty in Alberta, Canada directly to Steele City, Nebraska. It would run through Baker, Montana, where American-produced oil from the Bakken formation in Montana and North Dakota would be added to the pipeline. The proposed 875-mile route of Keystone XL would cross the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.

The Keystone XL Pipeline has received all the necessary federal permits to complete the project, but it faces continuing litigation at the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana regarding the project’s compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Reaction to Trump’s move has been swift. TransCanada and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce praised the president.

“The president’s action today clarifies the national importance of Keystone XL and aims to bring more than ten years of environmental review to closure,” TransCanada said in a press release and statement.

“President Trump has been clear that he wants to create jobs and advance U.S. energy security and the Keystone XL pipeline does both of those things,” Russ Girling, TransCanada’s president and chief executive officer said. “We thank President Trump for his leadership and steadfast support to enable the advancement of this critical energy infrastructure project for North America.”

“The magnitude of the work on this project has been extensive,” Girling said. “The Keystone XL pipeline has been studied more than any other pipeline in history, and the environmental reviews are clear – the project can be built and operated in an environmentally sustainable and responsible way.”

“Keystone XL will create thousands of jobs and deliver economic benefits across North America while being the safest, most efficient and environmentally sound way to move crude oil to the U.S. Gulf Coast,” the TransCanada press release said.

“We’re pleased to see action that will help clear the way for development of the Keystone XL pipeline,” the Chamber of Commerce said in a statement. “The Keystone XL pipeline is one of the most studied pieces of infrastructure in American history.”

“Over the course of a decade, it has been through five environmental reviews on the main route and an additional two on an alternative route,” the press release said. “As our president and CEO, Tom Donohue, recently said during recent Congressional testimony, ‘It shouldn’t take longer to approve a project than to build it.”

“Keystone XL is in our economic and energy security interests, and review after review have found that it can be built and operated in an environmentally responsible way,” the press release said. “It’s time to move forward.”

But environmental activists and their supporters are raising the same objections to the project. Now with Trump as president, the criticism is taking the shape of a personal attack.

Stephan Volker, a lawyer for environmental activists who sued to stop completion of the pipeline, called Trump’s move “illegal,” according to AP.

“By his action today in purporting to authorize construction” of the pipeline despite court rulings blocking it, “President Trump has launched a direct assault on our system of governance,” Volker said Friday in an email to AP.

Trump’s attempt to “overturn our system of checks and balances is nothing less than an attack on our Constitution. It must be defeated,” Volker said.

“Anthony Swift, director of the Canada project for the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group, said the pipeline ‘was a bad idea from Day One, and it remains a terrible idea. If built, it would threaten our land, our drinking water, and our communities from Montana and Nebraska to the Gulf Coast. And it would drive dangerous climate change,’” AP reported.

Aside from the legal challenges, in 2015 President Barack Obama rejected the pipeline outright, saying it was not in the “national interest.”

Obama’s DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson Says ‘We Truly Are In A Crisis At The Border’

H/T Godfather Politics.

Even Jeh Johnson is smart enough to see there is a border crisis.

Obama’s DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson: ‘We are truly in a crisis‘ at the southern border.

“A little bit of context here. When I was in office in Kirstjen Nielsen’s job, at her desk, I’d get to work around 6:30 in the morning, and there would be my intelligence book sitting on my desk, the PDB, and also the apprehension numbers from the day before,” Johnson said during his appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“My staff would tell you if it was under 1,000 apprehension the day before, that was a relatively good number, and if it was above 1,000, it was a relatively bad number, and I was going to be in a bad mood the whole day.”

“On Tuesday there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that a thousand overwhelms the system. I can’t imagine what 4,000 a day looks like. So, we are truly in a crisis,” he continued.

Washington Examiner:

Jeh Johnson, homeland security secretary during former President Barack Obama’s second term, declared Friday the southern border is in a “crisis” state, a claim the Trump administration first made late last year.

“We are truly in a crisis,” Johnson told MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski.

“On Tuesday there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that 1,000 [apprehensions] overwhelms the system and I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like,” he said.

U.S. Border Patrol agents on the southwest border took more people into custody Monday than in any day in the past 10 years, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday.

Federal law enforcement agents made more than 3,700 apprehensions across California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas on Monday. More

Most of the Demoncrats are too stupid to know that there is truly a huge crisis at the border, but when you have a former Obama staff member saying that there is a crisis, you know that there is a real big crisis!

The Liberal Congress members, especially the House under Nancy Pelosi’s control “refuse to recognize a disaster which is taking place” and it will put America on that “deathbed” if it isn’t stopped.

Climate Shocker: NASA Finds Major Greenland Glacier Getting Bigger, Not Melting

H/T Godfather Politics.

This finding by NASA shoots the globull warming or climate change arguments right in the ass.

A key glacier in Greenland is growing again after shrinking for several years, according to NASA.

“The Jakobshavn (YA-cob-shawv-en) glacier around 2012 was retreating about 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) and thinning nearly 130 feet (almost 40 meters) annually,” the Associated Press reported. “But it started growing again at about the same rate in the past two years, according to a study in Monday’s Nature Geoscience. Study authors and outside scientists think this is temporary.”

“That was kind of a surprise. We kind of got used to a runaway system,” said Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland ice and climate scientist Jason Box, the AP noted. “The good news is that it’s a reminder that it’s not necessarily going that fast. But it is going.”

Box added, “arguably the most important Greenland glacier because it discharges the most ice in the northern hemisphere. For all of Greenland, it is king.”

Scientists say that the cooling in the North Atlantic waters caused the glacier to begin growing again.

“The water in Disko Bay, where Jakobshavn hits the ocean, is about 3.6 degrees cooler (2 degrees Celsius) than a few years ago, study authors said,” the AP added.

Naturally, all these scientists rushed to note that this “may” only be temporary, and that global warming will “likely” resume soon.

University of Washington ice scientist Ian Joughin insisted that global warming will resume soon enough, adding, “to a large extent, a temporary blip. Downturns do occur in the stock market, but overall the long-term trajectory is up. This is really the same thing.”

Of course.

In generations past people assumed that a drought was proof the gods didn’t like them. Now the same sort of people are bowing at the feet of the gods of global warming.

The truth is, they haven’t a clue why any of this happens. It just happens because weather changes.

But, isn’t it amusing that every thing they see that goes against their narrative is proof that… their narrative is still right?

It is far more proof that global warming is a religion, as opposed to science. Everything is “proof” of global warming.

Absolutely everything.

Murdering MLK’s Dream: Savannah’s Mayoral Race … Meeting Organizers Said ‘Black Reporters Only’

H/T Clash Daily.

Just think of the Hell that would be raised if a white candidate had said white reporters only.

The worst part of the story is just who it was that organized this obscenity!

A mayoral race in Savannah, Georgia is getting more attention to the rules around one speaking event than the candidates themselves are getting. That’s because the rules for attendance were explicitly racist.

But the candidate — and some elected officials, past and present — showed up anyway.

Imagine replacing the word ‘white’ everywhere that black appears in this story. Would any of the attendees have been given a pass for even attending such an event, let alone speaking there?

With signs stating “Black press only” on the doors of the church where the meeting was held, white reporters were barred from entry, while black reporters for at least two television stations were permitted inside.

…Former Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson declined to comment before going inside, as did Chatham County Commissioner Chester Ellis.

“This is not my idea,” Ellis said.

Savannah Alderman Estella Shabazz, who also attended, said that she had once owned a newspaper and she was a member of the black press, but she declined to comment on the policy barring white reporters from going inside.

[Again, imagine what the news reports would look like if the word ‘black’ were replaced with ‘white’.]

Where’s Jim ‘Defender of the Free Press’ Acosta on this story? Or CNN’s media critic Brian Stelter?

Savannah Alderman Van Johnson, who is one of three African-Americans who have stated their intention to run for mayor, said afterwards that during the meeting he had talked about his vision for an inclusive and progressive Savannah. With regards to the discriminatory policy at the door, Johnson said he believed people have the right to assemble and determine the rules of their assembly.

“It’s not my meeting,” Johnson said. “I was asked to come and give a statement, so I came and I gave a statement. What I said in there, I’ll say out here.”

Louis Wilson, who said he is going to run for mayor again after an unsuccessful run in 2015, also spoke during the meeting about his priorities. Afterwards, Wilson also declined to discuss the press restriction.

“I didn’t plan the meeting so I can’t comment on that part,” he said. “I came to say what I had to say.”

That’s the funny thing about freedom of assembly — you absolutely have the right to set the rules of your own private meeting.

But never forget, that doesn’t absolve anyone of consequences. The rest of us have a right to an opinion about just what kind of a person participating in such a meeting makes you.

Our harshest criticism is reserved for the organizer:

With signs stating “Black press only” on the doors of the church where the meeting was held, white reporters were barred from entry, while black reporters for at least two television stations were permitted inside.

The event was coordinated by the Rev. Clarence Teddy Williams, owner of the consulting firm, The Trigon Group, who declined to discuss the entry policy.

A man calling himself a Christian preacher has created a racial criterion for participation in an event he has organized — and he has used a building consecrated to the worship of God to do so.

While it’s true that there are churches that tend to be racially monochromatic, that’s a weakness of the American Church, not a strength.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream that we would all be judged by the content of our character. He found that idea in the pages of Holy Scripture.

Gal 3:28 for example: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Or go to the Back of the Book, Revelation 7:9 “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

You can be politically divisive as a race-baiter, or you can be a faithful example of the Christian gospel.

You can’t be both. You’d think the MODERATOR of a missionary association that calls itself ‘Berean’ would know that. But judging by their profile pic…

…probably not.

And it would be interesting to see whether exclusion like this at a public event for those seeking public office is, in fact, compliant with election regulations.

Breaking! Federal Court Finds California Magazine Ban Violates the Second Amendment

H/T NRA-ILA.

This could be a big win for California gun owners if this ruling stands.

In one of the strongest judicial statements in favor of the Second Amendment to date, Judge Roger T. Benitez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California determined on Friday that California’s ban on commonly possessed firearm magazines violates the Second Amendment.

The case is Duncan v. Becerra.

The NRA-supported case had already been up to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on the question of whether the law’s enforcement should be suspended during proceedings on its constitutionality. Last July, a three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit upheld Judge Benitez’s suspension of enforcement and sent the case back to him for further proceedings on the merits of the law itself.

Judge Benitez rendered his opinion late Friday afternoon and handed Second Amendment supporters a sweeping victory by completely invalidating California’s 10-round limit on magazine capacity. “Individual liberty and freedom are not outmoded concepts,” he declared.

In a scholarly and comprehensive opinion, Judge Benitez subjected the ban both to the constitutional analysis he argued was required by the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and a more complicated and flexible test the Ninth Circuit has applied in prior Second Amendment cases.

Either way, Judge Benitez ruled, the law would fail. Indeed, he characterized the California law as “turning the Constitution upside down.” He also systematically dismantled each of the state’s purported justifications for the law, demonstrating the factual and legal inconsistencies of their claims.

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox hailed the decision as a “huge win for gun owners” and a “landmark recognition of what courts have too often treated as a disfavored right.”

“Judge Benitez took the Second Amendment seriously and came to the conclusion required by the Constitution,” Cox said. “The same should be true of any court analyzing a ban on a class of arms law-abiding Americans commonly possess for self-defense or other lawful purposes.”

Unfortunately, Friday’s opinion is not likely to be the last word on the case. The state will likely appeal to the Ninth Circuit, which has proven notably hostile to the Second Amendment in past decisions.

Nevertheless, the thoroughness of Judge Benitez’s analysis should give Second Amendment supporters the best possible chance for success in appellate proceedings, particularly if the case ultimately lands before the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the meantime, Friday’s order prohibits California from enforcing its magazine restrictions, leaving its law-abiding residents safer and freer, at least for the time being.
