Below is a copy of a letter I got from Representative Greg Pence(R-6th-IN) about the New Green Deal.
March 5, 2019
Thank you for contacting my office regarding the nonsensical Green New Deal. I appreciate you taking the time to share your views on this important matter, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
The Green New Deal sets several unrealistic, far-reaching goals that include a 10-year mobilization plan that seeks to eliminate all pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. These goals will be met by relying solely on clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources to meet 100 percent of our country’s energy needs. In addition to this, the Green New Deal guarantees free higher education, employment that provides a sustaining wage even when an individual is unwilling to work and government subsidized healthcare to every American citizen. These provisions are wildly beyond the scope of reality and would have a grave impact on rural America and Indiana’s 6th district.
There is a zero percent chance I would support this bill. It would be an unprecedented intrusion of the federal government into Hoosier’s everyday lives. The American Action Forum estimates that it would cost anywhere from $51 trillion to $93 trillion, which is four times our current national debt. The hardworking farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses owners of our district would be severely impacted by the increase in electricity and transportation costs needed to pay for this bill.
As your representative in Congress, I will work tirelessly against the ridiculous government overreach that this bill exemplifies. It is an honor to serve Hoosiers of Indiana’s Sixth Congressional District. You can visit my website at www.pence.house.gov to learn more about how I am representing you in Congress.
