It is going to be a long hot and bloody summer for the Windy City.
Chicago has had some trouble finding many nice weather days so far this year. It has been sub-zero, cold, rainy, and dreary since October of last year. But Monday the Windy City finally got some nice weather and naturally that brought out the gang shooters. The result was 15 shot and three killed in one day.
Chicago continues to see between 10 and 30 shot every weekend, even in the cold weather. But it is telling that the first warm day drew the shooters from their hidey holes.
Chicago has not seen temperatures above a dreary 40 degrees in months, but Monday saw the city’s first day with temperatures in the low seventies.
And the blood letting commenced…
“A man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in West Englewood, just blocks away from where six people were shot at a baby shower Saturday,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
According to the paper, the others killed on Monday include:
Jhanari Robinson, 19, was shot in the head and died at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Then there was the unfortunate Mr. Conner:
Daquan Conner, 19, was standing on the sidewalk at 12:38 p.m. in the 500 block of North Lamon Avenue when someone shot at him and ran away, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Conner was struck twice in the abdomen, twice in the upper thigh and once in the shoulder, police said. He died at Stroger Hospital. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the death.
Police are investigating, but it isn’t likely that many of the murders will be solved as Chicago has one of the worst murder arrest rates in the nation.
The 15 people shot and three killed on Monday in Chicago follows a weekend in which 28 people were injured and five killed across the city.
Indeed, on Saturday, two little kids were shot when gunfire broke out at a baby shower.
“Two men who opened fire on a crowd of people gathered for a baby shower, wounding six people, including two children, may have acted in retaliation for an earlier gang conflict, police said Sunday,” the AP reported.
Naturally, the victims and the witnesses won’t talk to police, so the CPD have few leads on the case.
That’s Democrat-run Chicago for you.
