Gun Control Adds to the Death Toll in Illinois

H/T AmmoLand.

The powers that be in Illinois have made it virtually impossible to defend themselves by being able to carry a firearm.

U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)- Democrat legislators in Illinois make it hard for honest citizens to protect themselves. Illinois government is controlled by Chicago politicians, and, sadly, those politicians like gun-prohibition. They say their laws makes all of us safer. Facts say otherwise. Illinois politicians claim gun-control is “for the children” but we can count the bodies of the dead and injured who are the real victims of gun control.

Chicago has a problem with violent criminal drug gangs. Illinois politicians say the drug gangs would be non-violent if they couldn’t get guns. The solution, the politicians claim, is to pass more gun-control laws and to disarm more law-abiding citizens. That is what we’re told by Chicago politicians. The Chicago news media reports these political press releases without questioning their truth or looking for alternative explanations.

We can do what the news media should have done and take a deeper look at the problem. With 2015 people shot and wounded in Chicago this year, and an additional 415 shot and killed, it is obvious that existing gun laws have not made us safe. Politicians claim these violent drug gangs will obey the next gun law, even though the murderers, assailants and rapists ignored the 23 thousand existing firearms regulations that politicians have passed so far. Politicians say the same thing with every law they pass, so there is no reason to believe they are telling the truth this time.

Judge for yourself. We know that violent gangs in Chicago already smuggle drugs and illegal immigrants around the globe and across our borders. Politicians claim that new ink on paper will stop the gangs from smuggling the next a pound of steel, lead and gunpowder. That hasn’t worked so far.

These gun-prohibitionists claim that the problem isn’t really about Chicago, but that the city is an unfortunate victim of lax gun laws in other states. That is like claiming that the drug problem in Chicago is really the problem of lax drug laws in Columbia and China. History shows us that when we take a shipment of illegal drugs away from the gangs, the gangs simply go out and buy more illegal drugs. Likewise, when we take away their guns, the criminals go out and get more illegal guns.

The fact we’re trying to ignore is that criminals break the law. They don’t obey our drug laws, our immigration laws, our prostitution laws, or our gun laws. Politicians can blame someone else, but Chicago politicians created the environment where people turn to drugs and to crime.

Chicago has both high crime AND stringent gun-control. Passing gun-prohibition laws and disarming honest citizens makes things worse rather than better. Disarmed victims are easy targets for gangs of armed criminals. Gun control reduced the number of honest and law-abiding people who legally carry a concealed firearm in public. That leads to more crime victims.

Illinois makes it difficult to obtain a concealed carry permit and nowhere is it harder than in the city of Chicago. Politicians required that applicants for a carry permit demonstrate their skill with a firearm. Then the politicians outlawed shooting ranges where honest citizens can learn to shoot and demonstrate good marksmanship. In contrast, the criminals use the streets of Chicago as their shooting range.

We can put numbers to the body count. The state of Illinois has over 300 thousand licensed concealed carry holders. That number should be closer to 800 thousand if Illinois had a concealed carry rate that matched the rest of the United States. Illinois isn’t like the rest of the US. An Illinois permit costs more and takes longer than almost any other state. Half-a-million people gave up on getting their permit because of the difficult process in Illinois.

Those law-abiding citizens were disarmed in public by Illinois laws and regulations. Disarming half a million law-abiding citizens has real consequences. Based on FBI statistics, about 2700 of the victims of violent crime in Illinois this year were disarmed because of the extremely burdensome requirements that stopped them from going armed in public. We’ve made it hard on the law-abiding citizens, but criminals don’t bother to follow those firearms restrictions.

Those 2700 victims were their own first responders. They were on their own to stop the attack on themselves and their families. They were on their own until they could call the police. They were on their own until police could get to the scene and arrest their attacker. Illinois politicians guaranteed that the criminals were armed, but those 2700 victims were not.

Most of those victims would have stopped their attackers if they were armed. Almost all of the rape victims would have stopped their attacker if they were allowed to go armed in public. They were disarmed by Illinois gun control.

Self-defense seldom requires pressing the trigger. The vast majority of criminals run away rather than face an armed victim. That is a good thing. Despite that, Illinois politicians said that concealed carry holders are a danger to the public. That isn’t true. Where we have data, we find that concealed carry holders are more law abiding than the police. Civilians who defend themselves with a firearm are much less likely than the police to shoot innocent bystanders. These people with a permit to carry a firearm in public are your neighbors, and as you’d expect, they behave responsibly.

Unfortunately, Chicago politicians would rather disarm the victims. The victim’s blood is on their hands. The victims of gun-control should be on our conscience as well.

Secret Service Report on School Shootings Shows We Need Trump to Keep Students Safe

H/T Town Hall.

We need President Trump to present his ideas on school safety.

Last week, the U.S. Secret Service released a groundbreaking report analyzing school shootings and mass casualty attacks over the past decade. If taken seriously by school leaders, this report should help spot and stop threats. And if taken seriously by the Trump re-election campaign, this report could provide the key to victory in 2020 by helping them make the case that having a Democrat in the White House puts our students in greater danger.

Historically, Republicans have not tried to make political hay out of school shootings. It has always been the Democrats who have jumped to capitalize on kids getting murdered in schools to grow their political power.

Take it from me. The morning after my daughter Meadow was murdered in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida, our Democrat superintendent of schools Robert Runcie stood outside the building to call for gun control… before my daughter’s body was even taken out of the building.

In the days and weeks to come, leftist activists exploited the tragedy to advance an agenda that had nothing to do with what happened. And when I said, “Let’s figure out what went wrong and why so we can take steps to stop this from happening,” I got called a pro-gun, NRA shill.

But I pressed forward to find the facts. My book, Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies that Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger America’s Students shows the facts that CNN had no interest in covering. Parkland was the most avoidable mass murder in American history – but it was made virtually inevitable by politically correct, Democrat policies. Policies that were pioneered in Parkland and spread by the Obama administration to schools across the country.

The killer couldn’t have been more clear about who and what he was. He threatened to kill kids. He threatened to rape kids. He threatened to shoot up the school. He brought bullets and knives to school. He was so dangerous that they wouldn’t let him bring a backpack to school, and they frisked him every day.

But he was never arrested. He was hardly even disciplined. Because Broward County was trying to decrease the so-called “school-to-prison pipeline” by forcibly lowering suspensions, expulsions, and arrests. Looking at Broward’s “success” in reducing discipline, the Obama Department of Education threatened to take away school districts’ federal funding if they didn’t adopt similar policies.

This has led to chaos in the classroom, and substantial harm to academics.

And the Secret Service report confirms my concern that what went wrong in Parkland wasn’t unusual. School shooters always show signs, and these policies make it more likely that schools will ignore them.

According to the report, many of the shooters had a long history of being bullied before their rampage. They also exhibited a significant amount of troubling behavior that went either unreported or was reported but was left unaddressed. One key recommendation from the report: Schools should not be shy about conducting thorough threat assessments on students if staff have cause to believe that a student might commit serious violence.

But Obama-era, liberal policies exacerbate all of this. They discourage teachers from disciplining students for “subjective” offenses, allowing bullying to run rampant. In California, it is now literally illegal to suspend a student for consistently bullying another kid. By discouraging school staff from taking disciplinary action, these policies also discourage students from even reporting it. Knowing that if they “see something and say something” that the adults will “do nothing,” students are more inclined to keep quiet.

And liberal activist groups like the ALCU and Southern Poverty Law Center, which give the Democrat Party most of its ideas on education, have strenuously objected to threat assessments on the grounds that they might be “discriminatory” in practice.

If another Democrat is elected to the White House, they will pick up where the Obama administration left off and force these bad policies and ideas into schools across the country. And every school shooting will become another occasion for them to grow their political power.

Republicans have always wanted to find the facts first and then take constructive action. But thanks to the Secret Service, we have the facts. And the Trump campaign should take action to make sure that parents have them too.

The election last week further confirmed that suburban soccer moms are turning further against the president, perhaps due to aesthetic distaste with his brash style. But the single strongest instinct for any mother is the need to keep their kids safe.

The Trump campaign must make the case that if any Democrat is elected president, the policies that caused Parkland will be forced into schools across the country and put kids at risk.

This would not be political opportunism. It would be a public service announcement. And, hopefully, it will save kids’ lives.

Supreme Court Opens Door to Sandy Hook Families’ Suit Against Gun Maker

H/T Breitbart.

So does this mean families can sue The Big Three Automakers because a drunk killed someone with their automobile?

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) cleared the way Tuesday for Sandy Hook families’ lawsuit against gun maker Remington to proceed.

SCOTUS did this by refusing to hear Remington’s appeal of a March Connecticut Supreme Ruling that allowed the lawsuit to stand.

The Stamford Advocate reports 10 Sandy Hook families filed the suit despite the existence of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act; “a federal law that shields the industry from most liability when its firearms are criminally misused.”

Josh Koskoff, the lead attorney for the 10 families, reacted to SCOTUS by saying:

The families are grateful that the Supreme Court upheld precedent and denied Remington’s latest attempt to avoid accountability. We are ready to resume discovery and proceed towards trial in order to shed light on Remington’s profit-driven strategy to expand the AR-15 market and court high-risk users at the expense of Americans’ safety.

On November 14, 2017, Breitbart News reported the AR-15 used in the Sandy Hook attack was stolen, as was the handgun the attacker used to take his own life when police reached the scene.

RED FLAG LAWS MORE DANGEROUS THAN EXPECTED

H/T JPFO.

Red Flag Laws are an end-run around the Second Amendment.

Deadly warnings go unheeded.

People declared guilty without trials are left out on the streets

Americans don’t realize that the safety promised by “red flag” laws will be dangerously lost, if red-flagged people become enraged. They are left free on the streets, where they can terrorize those who assaulted them with the new laws. No grounds or means for locking them up are included, a side effect of dropping traditional due process.

Promoters of new red-flag creations, by ignoring the safeguards of due process–well known “innocent unless proven guilty” standards that keep you free–introduced new dangers. By abandoning this fundamental safety net, they lifted restrictions that hold tyrants, bigots and other malfeasants at bay. A recent survey has shown that most Americans cannot even describe what due process is, let alone hold it up as a basic right to be honored or defended. Removing due process allows officials to act as if the public is guilty without the burdens of a trial–or even formal charges.

Red flag laws are only expected to be used against supposedly deadly dangerous psychotics, before they act out in spree murders, sort of “pre-crime.” Once officials take–without proper paperwork or court orders–firearms they can find in those people’s homes, the people are simply left alone. Any weapons officials miss, plus knives, gasoline, or firearms that can be easily obtained on the street–these remain with the flagged people. Nothing stops the supposedly murderous psychotics–if flag laws are applied as intended–to attack their suspected accusers, authorities or ambush anyone, in attempts to rebalance the scales of justice. Experts have been hard pressed to describe a more dangerous legalistic invention.

“Eliminating due process, and declaring people guilty without trial or representation, means totally abandoning the U.S. Constitution,” said Alan Korwin, author of ten books on gun law and consultant to JPFO. “We know democrats have been ignoring the rule of law, but this shows they know no bounds. Do they expect courts to support this? Or have the courts abandoned the rule of law as well?” When this comes home to roost, he says, you’ll really wish you had your right to keep and bear arms intact, as the Founders intended, for your own safety.

Catholic Bishop Wants Rural Gun Owners To Bend The Knee

H/T Bearing Arms.

The Catholic Church needs to clean up its own backyard before preaching to others about anything.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is meeting in crime-ridden Baltimore, Maryland for its fall assembly, and one bishop used the setting to call for a dialogue between rural gun owners and urban residents. What Bishop Frank Dewane is really asking for, however, is for rural gun owners to bend their knee and accept all kinds of infringements on their right to keep and bear arms in the name of public safety.

He pointed to the need to address gun violence, which has ravaged many urban centers, while acknowledging the legitimate concerns among responsible gun owners of losing access to firearms for hunting or, in some cases, protection.

Since 1975, the USCCB has issued a series of statements and pastoral letters addressing gun violence. Individual bishops, in their capacity as chairmen of USCCB committees, have sent letters to Congress outlining the conference’s concern that lives are being needless lost because of the widening availability of guns, including military-style weapons.

However, Dewane’s call goes beyond legislative efforts and appears to open the door for church leaders to seek a common ground in addressing gun violence.

“Human life is sacred … and we need to approach this with the full strength of our teaching,” he told the assembly.

Bishop Dewane also said the USCCB is not seeking a total limit to handguns, but would welcome broader background checks and some limits on gun ownership.

Bishop Dewane should take a close look at Maryland’s gun control laws and see how well they’re working in Baltimore. Back in 2013 the state passed the Maryland Firearms Safety Act, and homicides in Baltimore have been climbing ever since, from 235 murders in 2013 to more than 300 homicides per year ever since. The Firearms Safety Act wasn’t some minor gun control law; in fact it contained everything that gun control activists had asked for, including an “assault weapons” and magazine ban, a licensing requirement to own a handgun. It hasn’t worked.

Why should gun owners, rural or not, roll over and support these laws that make it harder to legally exercise a right, but don’t do a damn thing about addressing drug and gang-related violence driving the crimes?

Bishop Dewane is correct that human life is sacred. That’s why many of us are gun owners; not because we care little about human life, but because we value it. Life is sacred, and worth protecting. Even Jesus recognized the right of self defense when he told the apostles to sell their cloaks and buy a sword if need be. The bishop himself seems to understand that going after the inanimate object won’t address the sickness in the human soul.

“Such regulations are helpful, but they will not ban gun violence completely. For that to happen, we need new ways of thinking. At the heart of the epidemic is a shooter. That shooter some how in some way turns inward on pain or isolation or illusions that it becomes possible to become desensitized to others, that he loses all empathy,” he said.

I would be happy, as a rural-American, to sit down and talk with Bishop Dewane about his gun control proposals, but I’d also like him to consider the possibility that, rather than improving public safety, many of the policies he’s proposing would in fact make it more difficult, if not impossible, for the marginalized and economically impoverished among us to exercise their right to keep and bear arms and the right of self-defense, if need be. What if the best of intentions are leading to the worst results; higher crime, less safety, and fewer rights? What if, instead of rural gun owners giving up their rights, urban Americans are empowered to legally exercise their own?

I’ve mentioned before that when I met my wife 22-years ago, she was a single mom of two living in Camden, New Jersey, which was the murder capitol of the United States at the time. New Jersey’s gun laws did a great job of stopping her from legally owning a gun, but they did nothing to prevent the gang members and drug dealers in her neighborhood from shooting at each other indiscriminately. Nor did they stop an angry boyfriend from emptying his magazine into what he thought was the front door of his girlfriend’s apartment. In fact, the police didn’t even show up to respond to that incident, according to my wife. My wife has gone from one of the most violent cities in the country to a small farm in rural Virginia, and is now a proud and empowered gun owner. Never again will she cower on her living room floor protecting her children as someone illegally possessing a gun fires round after round at her apartment building. Sadly, that is still the reality for far too many Americans, and rural gun owners are well aware of that tragedy. We just know that the answer to addressing the violence in Baltimore, Camden, St. Louis, Chicago, and other high-crime cities doesn’t involve making it harder for law-abiding Americans to protect themselves.

Gun Confiscation Deception Scheme

H/T JPFO.

Joy Behar wants DemocRats to lie about gun confiscation.

Joy Behar revealed a key piece of the Progressive Project to her listeners on 4 November, 2019. She advised politicians who wanted to confiscate guns from U.S. citizens to deceive them so the politicians could get elected; then confiscate the guns.

To the Left, this is nothing controversial. The whole point of Progressivism is the electorate is too stupid and ignorant to govern themselves. They believe the purpose of an elite is to deceive the governed (through manipulation of the information they receive, and controlling the narrative), so as to allow the elite to keep power and govern as they wish. The purpose of the media is to be “gatekeepers” of the information flow and to create the desired narratives.

But Behar violated an important Progressive rule: Do not tell the victims of the con they are being conned. From foxnews.com:

Politicians seeking to confiscate guns from Americans shouldn’t share their plans with the public beforehand and should seek to maintain an element of surprise, Joy Behar said on “The View” Monday.

Behar was discussing former 2020 presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke, a Democrat from Texas, and said it was foolish of him to announce his plans for gun confiscation before he was elected. She advised all politicians to go after the country’s guns after they’ve assumed office.

“They should not tell everything they’re going to do. If you’re going to take people’s guns away, wait until you get elected — then take the guns away,” she said. “Don’t tell them ahead of time.”

One of the many problems with the Progressive Project is its reliance on false premises. The Progressives put forward the narrative that experts were far better suited to govern the country than politicians selected by voters. But, if you have a policy preference, you can easily find experts to validate it. There are “experts” on every side of every issue. It is not hard to create “experts” to give you “studies” to push whatever policy you want. If you control academia and the educational system, it is even easier.

We see precisely that in “Climate Change”, “White Privilege”, and “Gun Control”.

But truth is a powerful antidote. No matter how many millions of dollars a Bloomberg or the U.N., or U.S. governmental agencies, pour into creating the experts and research to validate their preferred policies, objective reality exists.

It only takes a small amount of bandwidth to allow countervailing facts, or interpretations of agreed on facts, to discredit mountains of “experts” and “studies”.

The Progressives have no problem with deception, because they have no foundational ethics except the drive to political power. Government is their god.

The embrace of deception is there for anyone who wishes to study Progressive theory. Most people do not have the time or inclination to do the reading. Behar made the mistake of allowing a peek behind the curtain to a wide audience.

Conservatives, on the other hand, are more constrained. They agree, in principle, that lying and deception of the electorate is bad. It undermines the base premise of the American system of self-government and limited government.

This is the main reason for the divide between Conservatives and Progressives on the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment directly limits governmental power. That is its prime purpose. “Shall not infringe” is a direct, clear, limit on governmental authority. This enrages Progressives. It is a direct affront to their entire philosophy. 20% of voters believe limits on governmental power are immoral.

It is no coincidence that 20% of voters believe owning a gun is immoral.

It explains why Progressives do not do the obvious, embrace the Second Amendment, and win election after election. To do so, they would be contradicting their own core principle, and, particularly, stymieing their long term strategy of destroying the gun culture through cutting off salami slices of the Second Amendment until nothing is left.

To Progressives, the idea of allowing a limit on the government is evil. Progressives, or the Left, in general, will claim limiting the government is to limit its ability to do good. But all the great disasters in governments around the world in the last century claimed they were using power to achieve the greater good. Stalin, Pol Poi, Mao, Castro, Chavez, Hitler, Mussolini, Roosevelt, Churchill, and al-Baghdadi, all claimed to be pursuing the greater good.

Conservatives, on the other hand see nothing wrong with the Second Amendment. It is simply another check and balance to governmental power, part of the social contract of the Constitution between the people and the government. Government must be limited to assure personal freedom.

As the media fragments, allowing more viewpoints to be heard, Progressive power will decrease. Since the middle 1960s, at least, it has depended on its overwhelming ability to control the narrative. Joy Behar did not do the Progressive Project any favors by exposing its embrace of deception.

Virginia Democrat Governor ‘Has Not Ruled Out Confiscating Assault Weapons’ (Details)

H/T Flag And Cross.

Will Virginians be defiant or compliant sheeple?

Remember Virginia elections have consequences.

This won’t go over well…

Virginia’s Democrat governor has not ruled out gun confiscation. Ol’ blackface himself said so. If Dems aren’t actively trying to get President Trump re-elected, then what is their angle? From TheBlaze:

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) of blackface fame boasted this week that his party is ready to implement an array of gun control measures in the commonwealth now that Democrats control all three branches of government, and his administration is already “working on” a plan for confiscating so-called “assault weapons” from law-abiding gun owners.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Northam wants to bring back eight “common-sense” gun control measures that Republicans shot down during a special session in July, prioritizing “universal background checks, banning the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, restoring the law that limits purchases to one gun a month, and a red flag law that would empower a court to temporarily remove a gun from a person deemed to be a risk to himself or others.”

Reactions:
